Estepona, Marbella, and Benalmádena Rank Among Spain's Top 5 Fastest-Growing Towns, Reflecting Costa del Sol's Appeal
Costa del Sol's Estepona, Marbella, and Benalmádena rank in Spain's top 5 fastest-growing towns, showcasing the region's allure.
The latest population data from Spain's INE (National Institute of Statistics) underscores the Costa del Sol's status as one of the country's most desirable living areas. Estepona, Marbella, and Benalmádena have emerged among the top five municipalities experiencing the highest population growth nationwide.
Estepona's Remarkable Growth
Estepona, now the second-fastest growing town in Spain, saw its population increase by 4.6% from 2022, rising from 73,698 to 77,068 residents. This growth is attributed to the town's successful economic and social policies. Mayor José María García Urbano highlighted Estepona's achievement in maintaining low unemployment rates and fostering job creation, emphasizing a 12-year focus on enhancing the town's economic and social dynamism.
Marbella's Steady Expansion
Marbella ranks fourth in population growth, with a 3.9% increase, elevating its population from 150,321 to 156,153. This surge has propelled Marbella to become the seventh most populated town in Andalucía, surpassing even some provincial capitals like Huelva, Cadiz, and Jaén. However, recent updates from Marbella town hall, using data as of January 1, 2024, indicate an even higher population count of 165,871, reflecting continuous growth.
Benalmádena's Upward Trend
Benalmádena occupies the fifth spot among Spain's fastest-growing towns. It experienced a 3.8% rise in inhabitants, growing from 73,549 to 76,318. This growth mirrors the region's overall trend of attracting more residents.
Diverse Population in Marbella
Marbella's demographic diversity is notable, with 153 nationalities registered in the municipality. The town hosts 112,013 Spanish citizens, followed by significant communities from the United Kingdom (5,486), Morocco (5,177), Ukraine (4,516), Colombia (3,712), and Russia (3,319), as pointed out by San Pedro Alcántara's deputy mayor Javier García.
Costa del Sol's Attractiveness
The Costa del Sol's popularity can be attributed to its pleasant climate, beautiful beaches, and high quality of life, making it an attractive destination for both Spaniards and international residents. The region's growth is not only a testament to its allure as a residential area but also reflects its robust economic potential, driven by tourism, real estate, and an increasingly diversified economy.
These trends in population growth highlight the ongoing appeal of the Costa del Sol and its towns as prime locations for living, working, and investing in Spain.
